The Performance Analyst will be responsible for performance analysis to ensure optimal configuration to support The Children’s Place ecommerce application including identification of bottlenecks and other systemic issues that could lead to performance degradation. This would also include ensuring the proper instrumentation is in place to provide proactive exception based alerting ahead of actual application or customer impact.  As a member of the eCommerce engineering solutions and performance team, you will create value by partnering to lead and provide direction for continuous improvement and assisting with platform performance planning for building future capabilities.   



  • Responsible for supporting the end to end performance of The Children’s Place eCommerce eco-system with a focus on WebSphere Commerce.
  • Work with Internal and external parties to utilize appropriate monitors, alert configurations, and procedures for triage and analysis.
  • Characterize, analyze and optimize the performance of a large complex eCommerce based application running under WebSphere Commerce, RHEL and DB2.
  • Define appropriate performance metrics within and between each component of the eCommerce ecosystem.
  • Partner to establish baselines and Key Performance Indicators (KPI’s) for use in measuring changes to the applications performance.
  • Create performance test strategy (for monthly code releases/holiday readiness), test plans, test summary and publish performance test metrics to senior management.
  • Develop best practices for performance testing and setup guidelines, make recommendations for WebSphere Application and/or WebSphere Commerce configurations that will improve overall application responsiveness and performance.
  • Create and maintain test scripts using Load Runner/PC for desktop and mobile applications using multiple protocols, troubleshoot issues from analyzing logs/output errors from performance center.
  • Partner on the development and maintenance of performance engineering documentation and reports.


  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science or related field is required
  • A minimum of 3+ years of software performance engineering experience
  • Min of 3+ years’ experience in Java-based web applications and eCommerce platform (WebSphere Commerce v7 or WebSphere Application Server v7 or ATG).


Skills and Behaviors:

  • Experience with Web Servers like IBMIHS or Apache or Tomcat, Linux, DB2, Solr (Search) and Order Management System (Manhattan or IBM Sterling) preferred.
  • Experience analyzing solutions in a distributed architecture and ability to understand the interactions from end to end.
  • Experience with mobile platforms and system performance considerations are a plus.
  • Experience with performance testing tools i.e. HP-Load Runner (Performance Center 12.50) is plus.
  • Familiarity with APM Tools like App Dynamics or Wily Intro scope and IBM PMAT tools is preferred.
  • Exceptionally strong critical thinking, analysis, troubleshooting and documentation skills are required.
  • Knowledge is desired in application design and programming methodologies, Java, JavaScript, Enterprise Java Beans (EJB), JSP, XML, XSLT, HTML,DHTML,CSS,SQL, Dojo, UNIX (Linux), shell scripting and DB2.
  • General understanding of Network technologies, Application security, APIs, Databases (preferably DB2) & JBOSS.
  • Familiarity with industry standards (W3C, Web Services, J2EE).
  • Demonstrated ability to tune large scale applications, retail industry experience is a big plus.
  • Ability to communicate in technical and non-technical terms to all levels of staff
  • Must be able to provide after-hours support as needed.
