The OCM Technical Industrial Designer works cross-functionally to build, conduct and evaluate training for those business transformation initiatives that include technical implementation, as well as provide ongoing technical training on all systems in the organization. A member of the corporate Human Resources team, this position reports to the Director of Organizational Change Management.


Key Accountabilities:

  • Serve as the technical trainer for all Business Transformation Office initiatives that include technological/systems implementations
    • Work with subject matter experts during strategy creation, process mapping, build and testing to learn the system and determine training objectives
    • Partner with the Organizational Change Management team to understand the current state and future state for all stakeholder groups in order inform the training strategy
    • Using the subject matter expertise of the system architects, build innovative and easy-to-understand training materials (e.g. Instructor-led facilitation guides and participant slides, quick reference guides, job aides) that will ensure knowledge transfer to and adoption by all user groups
    • Organize and plan all instructor-led technical training programs

  • Drive the sustainability of our systems
    • Partnering with the Organizational Change Management Director and business lead(s), develop and deploy ongoing technical training on all systems for new hires or transfers (post-go live) e.g., new hire training, training on new releases or system updates
    • Build and maintain job aides, quick reference guides, facilitator guides and other training tools for all systems to ensure materials are up to date and available

  • Create, keep and report data on courses
    • Track participants and report back to the Organizational Change Management team and business lead(s)
    • Build and communicate key metrics around participation, knowledge transfer and system adoption



Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in IT, Education, Communications or other related field
  • Five years’ experience as a technical trainer, preferably in a retail, media or other fast-paced environment
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • History of developing relationships and working cross-departmentally to achieve desired outcomes
  • Ability to work independently and efficiently on multiple projects simultaneously, as role requires strong organizational skills, acute attention to detail, and flexibility as project requirements shift rapidly
  • Experience creating visually stimulating training using Microsoft Office applications like Captivate and Articulate
  • Agile learner who can pick up new systems easily and quickly
  • Certification such as CTT+ (Certified Technical Trainer) is a strong asset
  • Training strategy, instructional design, and execution experience on technology adoption projects a plus
