Overview

The Merchandise Business Analyst will support and help drive the company’s Merchandising, Planning & Allocation initiatives, where the goal is to unlock the power of analytics and technology to help improve the company’s merchandise financial performance.  The Analyst will conduct analysis, own reporting, and help design and execute processes to advance the company’s merchandising and planning capabilities for all of its product divisions across the company’s multiple selling channels including US stores, Canadian stores and eCommerce.  Reporting to the Director of Business Analytics, this position will partner with internal cross functional teams such as Planning, Allocation, Merchandising, Information Technology and Store Operations as well as external service providers.

Responsibilities

Key Accountabilities:

  • Drive initiative execution success: continuously help improve the company’s productivity performance metrics
  • Support the current store tiering / choice count optimization initiatives, including historical modeling, future assortment plan guidance, tiering processes, executional reporting and timely business unit partnerships to identify and support special tiering opportunities and requirements
  • Support the current size optimization initiatives, including curve / size pack tool ownership, processes, executional reporting and timely business unit partnerships
  • Conduct analyses and build/own reporting to determine best policies and processes, monitor effectiveness and flag opportunities to improve
  • Assess, evaluate, and interpret the results; partner with the business on adopting and integrating the learnings
  • Support enhancement of current processes or implementation of new ones via process documentation, roles and responsibilities assessment, development of training/testing materials, communication/coordination with both internal and external partners and reporting/analyses
  • Partner with various functions ranging from Merchants to IT; across a range of levels, from functional heads to individual contributors as well as external service providers
  • Manage and run Business Intelligence queries in Cognos

Qualifications

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in the sciences or arts with a strong quantitative aptitude preferred
  • 3-5 years of experience in retail Merchandise Planning, Demand Planning and/or Allocation, preferred
  • 2-3 years of experience in an analytical or reporting role preferred

 

Skills and Behaviors:

  • Strong partnership skills: reliable, follows-up and co-ownership minded
  • Excellent analytical, BI reporting and retail math skills
  • Strong focus on the accuracy of detail and summarization skills
  • Advanced Excel skills including pivot tables, vlookups and sumifs required
  • Must be agile, able to prioritize, and able to manage multiple demands and stay calm under pressure
  • Ability to work independently as well as part of a team; must have self-initiative and problem-solving skills
  • Strong, energetic and passionate communication skills
